Summer is well and truly underway 🌞 . Here’s what we have been up to at FCDC recently…

Family Sign Course British Sign Language Dictionary | A

We started off June by finishing off our Family sign course. This course was designed to teach families how to use British Sign Language in everyday family life with topics such as family members, names, greetings, food, mealtimes, numbers, colours, emotions/feelings, hospital, doctors, dentist, appointments, how to ask questions and lots more! Our families started the 6 week course with a face to face session where they were able to meet our teacher Claire, and discuss experiences, stories and advice. This was then followed by 4 online zoom sessions, covering topics by watching Claire, playing games and asking any questions they had. We finished the course by another face to face session covering the final few topics and playing a game of BSL bingo.

KS3/4 Ninja Warrior 🥷

Our next event in June took us to the Ninja Warrior course. Our KS3/4 group were up for the challenge to try tackle it. Everyone went in, picked up their special Ninja socks and watched the safety briefing. The young people made their way around the course, swinging from the bars, balancing on the beams and running up the famous warped wall. To my surprise, Helen booked myself onto the course too. As you can imagine, I was put through my paces when the young people wanted me to race them all around the inflatable obstacle course. We finished off our session playing a few rounds of hide and seek, before heading over to the Café to have some well earned food and refreshments.

Father’s Day BBQ 🌭

What better way to celebrate Father’s day then a BBQ at Windmill hill city farm! Whilst we fired up the BBQ, The families arrived and took part in a stick man hunt to find the letters that made up a word and unlocked the treasure. The FCDC restaurant was then open, we all enjoyed some hot dogs, burgers and fruit kebabs. There was some farmyard colouring for the children whilst the Adults had a catch up. Before saying goodbye to our families we handed out some Father’s day goodie bags, which included some treats and crafts.

Morning at the farm🐐

We then headed to Lawrence Weston community farm. We paid a visit to a couple of very cute lambs that were only one day old.. A big pig and lots of hungry goats and chickens. We stopped for a spot of lunch, and the adults caught up over a coffee. The children took the lead and wondered us around the farms woodland where they found a home made see saw and climbed the big tree.

Bath/Easton Stay and play 🛝

This month we also had our stay and plays at Bannerman Road Children’s centre in Easton and New Oriel Hall in Bath. With the help of Sensory Support services, we have recently started outreach stay & plays in the Bath and Easton area to ensure that all families have the same access to services/support networks. We will be returning with these monthly stay and play sessions in September.

Thank you!

Finally, we’d like to say a big thank you to St James’ place, for their donation of  £160.25 raised for FCDC through their cake sale. Also we have had a number of personal donations, which we would like to thank you for, these donations make a big difference and contribute to all that we do at FCDC.
